أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ الْعَظِيمَ

Astaghfirullah al-Azim

I seek forgiveness from Allah the Magnificent

What it means

This is the everyday phrase with one addition. Astaghfirullah asks Allah to cover and forgive; al-ʿAẓīm, “the Magnificent,” names Him by His greatness in the same breath. It sits between the bare astaghfirullah and the fuller form that goes on to add the clause of repentance — the same request, said a little more slowly.
