When it is recited
The fuller daily form
What it means
This is the fuller of the everyday forms. Astaghfirullah is built on the Arabic root gh‑f‑r — to cover, to shield, to forgive — so what is being asked is that Allah cover the fault and pardon it. Al-ʿAẓīm, “the Magnificent,” addresses Allah by His greatness as the request is made, and wa atūbu ilayh adds the turning itself: “and I repent to Allah.” The asking and the returning sit in one phrase.
